Imagining the Minoan Gastronomy

Gastronomy is an expression of how a community views itself according to its dietary needs and tastes and how its members see themselves as providers, consumers and gourmands.
While we know a lot about the Minoan foods and diet, we ignore fundamental issues relating to Minoan gastronomy.
The dinner that followed the talks by Tzedakis, Hallager and Andreadaki at the Khania arcaeological museum (50 years of Greek-Swedish excavations at Castelli, Khania) was my playful interpretation of the savor and aroma of Minoan cuisine (

Though we know what plants and animals the Minoans had available to them, we don’t know a great deal about cooking techniques beyond what one can surmise from extant pots and utensils and we know nothing about Minoan recipes.
